This episode was all about the guards of the night’s watch. It was all about them doing their job of defending the wall against the menace of the north. It was a battle episode. We see the rise of Jon Snow, we see him becoming the leader of night’s watch.
Ygritt. I liked this woman in season 3, I liked her character, I liked her relationship with Jon, and we all liked the cave scene, (of course you did, don’t act like you didn’t) and the fact that they talked about it made me smile a little. But the new her, that woman going on killing innocent people, doing all those things, I didn’t like that side. Now knowing this was going to be a battle episode I was expecting a lot of death; knowing how this show works, I was mentally prepared to see everyone on Castle Black dead at the end of the episode. Well a lot die, but this time (and maybe this time only) things went the way they should. Meaning we didn’t see any last scene of Sam dying in Jon’s arms from a arrow of Ygritt and then Jon being decapitated by some random cannibal wildling. (I know right….crazy).
But in the place of that we got some nice strategy, some good battles, we got a mammoth, and we got giants. Yes giants, I didn’t even know they existed in GoT world, and they are ugly. (And they can shoot an arrow pass the wall).
There’s a 100 000 men north of the wall attacking, and a few hundred south. A two way attack, I thought it was a very good stratagem by the free folks, but they didn’t know that the crows have some very good motivational speeches. But no one saw that people were coming and going from the ONLY elevator, and nobody thought that it was going to be a good idea to stop back up from coming. So everyone was like I’m going up, I’m going down, like it was nothing. It was for the better. I mean it was the only way for Jon to go down and meet Ygritt.
Before that meeting he killed several free folks along the way, like a real badass. The fight between Jon and that wildling, I don’t remember his name (the big ugly guy) was interesting, but the best part was when Jon did the “Stop! Hammer time”. And there was Ygritt who thought she was Legolas or something. She was killing crows left and right until she saw Jon and froze. When little Ollie shot her I was like “yeah, good job little one” I don’t want Jon to die……..yet. Nobody’s safe in that show.
Sam also played a big part in the episode, he killed someone, he motivated the troops, at least one guy and Ollie, he brought Jon down from the wall, and he got the girl.
The only thing I didn’t like was the fact we missed the fight between the giant and the five guys who defended the gates, it must’ve been epic.
Now Jon is heading towards the leader of the free folks, trying to kill him. It sounds like it’s going to be a suicide mission. Well I don’t think so, I don’t really know, I don’t read the books, but it’ll be cool if it was some “You kill our leader, so now you’re our leader” kind of thing. Well let’s hope so.
I liked this episode, it was a solid episode in my opinion, I’m giving it a good 8.5/10.
Until next episode (the finale)
