EPIC. This episode was in my opinion the best episode of this season. Outstanding. Tyrion’s trial was also a good episode, but only the end was amazing, and Tyrion’s speech was as we know, also out of this world. But this episode, “The Children” was good, from head to toe. Every scene was on point.
And my two favorite characters of the show got their time to shine.
So the show begins with Jon Snow going to talk with Manse… I wish that what he planned worked, or what I wanted in my last review happened….. but a way better thing happened. Stannis Baratheon arrived with his troops. They arrived like Gandalf at Helm’s Deep. So Manse surrendered, and was taken prisonner thanks to Jon Snow son of Eddard Stark. (In my opinion that’s what saved Jon also….the fact that he was Ned’s son) Next they were burning the dead, but what caught my attention the most, was the fact that Melisandre was watching Jon through the fire. Maybe next season some “things” will happened between those two. Or she will decide that the Lord of the Light chose him for some reason to be some big name… (or even the king) Because that game (the game of thrones), I think it will be won by somebody that doesn’t even want to be king.
Brandon Stark. That boy…..I don’t know what to think of him. First of all, they arrive at the tree. They get attacked by some strange skeletons wielding swords and everything. (I immediately thought about Spinal in the Killer Instinct games). The are saved by a strange little girl throwing Ki balls. (I don’t know what they are, so I give the names I know) They are saved, but not before Jojen dies. It’s Game of Thrones, someone has to die… That fight scene was very well choreographed, and that girl can fight. Talking about fighting… Hodor my friend, a big guy like you, should know how to fight. It’s cool that you’re Hodoring all day, helping Bran and stuff, but when things gets serious, you got to chop some head, hodoring doesn’t kill skeletons in the North (or anywhere else). So one of the Children who were born way before the First Men (logical right ?) leads Bran and co to the Tree Eyed Raven. Well an old men bind in some tree branches. (or roots if you say that they’re underground). I’m asking myself is that man is some kind of a god, or is he a powerful warg and have a powerful greensight. The guy in the roots tells them that Jojen knew he was going to die from the beginning but came along anyway. Plus he tells Bran that he would never walk again, but he’s going to fly. Is that metaphorically, or literally. Next season we’ll ear…. It’s a bird, it’s a plane…no it’s Brandon Stark. (Cue superman’s theme song)
Daenerys Targaryen. There’s nothing much to say about her storyline in this episode. She caged her dragons in the catacombs…. Drogon (one fo the dragons) is in the wild burning things. (we could say he’s the problem child). The CGI for that scene was outstanding. I mean just beautiful. And yeah there was a man demanding to be a slave again. I found it odd, but I understand his point of view, but he could’ve at least ask to be paid. I’m just saying.
Arya Stark and The Hound. One of the few times that two different storyline cross paths. Bryenne of Tarth and Podrick cross paths with Arya Stark and Sendor “the hound” Clegane. When Podrick recognizes The Hound, Bryenne immediately knows that the little girl was Arya. Of course because of the Oath she took, she wanted to bring Arya back to safety. But like Sendor said, where is safety? The girl is almost alone in this world. Her mother is dead, her father is dead, her brother is dead, her aunt is dead. She got nowhere to go. Well she still got two bros and a sis. Sansa (whom we don’t see in this episode) is doing lord knows what with Littlefinger, Jon Snow is still in the Wall, and Bran is learning how to fly. The conversation between Bryen and Sendor didn’t last long, and of course they begin to fight. At first it was a clean sword fight between two very good swordsman, until things got very ugly. Ears were getting bitten of, rocks were thrown in the face, and some major hits between the legs. It looks like Bryenne suffered a little bit more than the Hound. At the end, Sendor Clegane was pushed over a cliff. He didn’t die from the fall but was mortally wounded. That scene when he was asking Arya to finish him off was a very powerful one, because I thought Arya was going to do it, because of the kill list and everything, but at the end she left him there to die…..Alone.
Tyrion Lannister. He didn’t die. That’s the most important part of everything for me. Cercei at least didn’t won that. Hell yeah !!! There was that scene with Cercei and Tywin, when she said to her father that she was indeed sleeping with Jaime, that her children were Jaime’s children. That the rumors were true, and Tywin’s disbelief shocked me a little. That guy, Tywin Lannister, master strategist, hadn of the king, he planned things we didn’t even think of, the guy that put his family first, didn’t know about Cercie and Jaime? How come ? I lost a little something of respect for him at this moment. I really liked his character, the way he was always calm, everything was going his way….as planned.
But he didn’t know about something the whole kingdom knows ? He actually chose not to believe in my opinion.
Now Jaime still saving Tyrion after the hot passionate sex with his sister (who stil wants Tyrion to die) caught me off guard, but not that much to tell the truth. He loves his brother (not in the same way he loves his sister though). Tyrion was supposed to go through a door and meet with Varys, but he decided to take a walk in the castle. At first I thought he was going to Cercei’s room, but instead eh gois to his father’s room, only to find a sleep Shae waiting for her “Lion” Tywin to get back. My reaction was the same as everybody I think… Ohh that b*tch ! The worst part is that she actually tried to kill Tyrion first. She’s the one who pulled the knife first. After Tyrion strangled her and say “I’m sorry” I laughed. It sounded almost sarcastic the way he said I’m sorry. Taking Geoffrey’s bow walking nonchalantly through the castle’s corridors, to find his father in the bathroom taking a dump was priceless. Pointing the weapon to his father. Again Tywin underestimating his own son. He’s trying to talk his way out of this like he was the boss of him. Come on man, he got a bow pointed at you, you sentenced him to die, he’s not there to play with you. Well the end result is, two arrows in the chest. (the way he puts the second arrow back in the bow, so calmly like he got nothing to lose, he’s in control, he was the boss at that particular time).
Varys knew he did something big when he saw him with the blood and everything, he still smuggles him out in a boat. I love the scene when Varys is heading back to the castle and hears the bells, he’s like, well I’m out of here people, and immediately goes back to the boat.
The coin of Jaqen H’ghar gave Arya at last serve his purpose. Valar Morgulis….Valar Dohaeris. Arya is now heading to the Free City of Braavos. What will she do there. I have no idea, at least she’s trying to find a new path. Now that she’s virtually alone. Maybe she’ll continue in the way of the sword from Braavos. I’m just speculating there.
Like I said in the beginning, this episode was outstanding, my rating is 10/10 easy. Simply amazing. I can’t believe also that I must wait almost a year for next season. At least I got other TV shows to watch. See you next review.
