After the Avengers movie when I heard there was going to be a Marvel series based on S.H.I.E.L.D the fanboy in me started screaming and dancing. I’m a big fan of the marvel universe, I’ve been reading “Strange Magazine” (a french comic book magazine) and Marvel’s magazine since I was a little kid. So I’m very familiar with the Marvel universe and the TV series lover that I am, knowing that there will be a TV show about the marvel universe, it was the best of both world for me.
At the beginning of the show, I felt like the writers didn’t exactly know what they wanted to do with it. Like some other shows I didn’t feel a threat. They looked like a group of people running around solving little mysteries like Scooby-doo and The Bus was their Mystery Machine. A really high-tech mystery machine. Some episode were more thrilling than others (it’s normal) but there never was a major threat, something you feel will cause a problem in the grand scale of things. Centipede made some appearances from time to time but nothing big.
I was watching the series just for watching it at this point. I got friends who dropped it, other people were complaining, some were saying it was just boring. I was also asking myself some serious question about whether I continue watching or dropping. Then Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out, and like for Thor: The Dark World the writers incorporated some of the movies plot on the show. But after the cap movie, things went south. In a major good way. I mean I always had a doubt regarding John Garrett, but being the Clairvoyant and even Hydra ?! That was a shocker for me. A little bit disappointed just like Flowers that he wasn’t really a Telepath. Right now they’re so sure that there’s not Telepath in the world, and as we know, the Marvel universe got some very powerful telepaths. The one eighty that Ward pull also was a shocker, but I never actually liked the guy. So it didn’t bother me that much but still, he played his part to perfection. Even when Garrett was going crazy, and you felt Ward was a little in doubt, he still stayed with the guy. I was fearing at some point he was going to be in the “good side” at the end, but he stayed true to his convictions – as bad as they were – and stayed at Garrett’s side.
I liked this season, mostly the post Captain America part of the season. Like most series some questions are left unanswered at the end of the season, like Skye true nature or what will happen to Fitz. It looks like Fitz is going to be a brain connected to some machines, the way they keep saying “he’s alive”. He’s one of my favorite characters on the show, along with Melinda May (the badassery on that woman OMG). Agent Triplett is now a official member of the team. He’ll definitely bring a different dynamic to the team instead of the cold and boring Ward (like I said I don’t like the guy) Maybe the next season will focus on Skye’s parents, or Flowers doing some crazy experiment, or even Ward escaping prison…. I would really like that they go deeper into the Marvel Universe and that the next season intrigue kicks in a little sooner.
At the end I’m no expert, just a fan talking. Should I rate this season… ? On what authority I would do that ? Well I’m going to do it on my authority. I’m giving this season a 7.5 / 10. It could’ve been better if the writers got inspired a little bit sooner.
Until next season of Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D
